The Secrets of the Seas
Allah Almighty says:
(He has let free the two seas meeting together. Between them is a barrier that they do not transgress. So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? From both of them come pearls and coral.)
(Surah Ar-Rahman, 55:19-22)
Coral: This is a type of jewelry that is found only in salty seas. The verse of the Quran refers to two seas that produce coral, implying that both seas are salty. The verse is describing a sea that produces coral and another sea that also produces coral. The first sea is salty, and so is the other.
It was only in 1942 that humans discovered that salty seas are not uniform, but rather that they differ in their composition. In 1873, it was understood that certain regions in different seas have distinct water compositions. This knowledge emerged when the Challenger Expedition set out to survey the seas over three years. The Challenger voyage is considered the turning point between the traditional, myth-filled knowledge of the seas and the more precise, research-based approach that followed. This expedition was the first scientific body to demonstrate that salty seas have different water compositions. They set up stations around the seas and, by measuring the data collected from these stations, they found that the seas differed in factors such as temperature, density, marine life, and oxygen solubility.
It wasn’t until 1942, after extensive research and the establishment of hundreds of marine stations, that it was definitively shown that the Atlantic Ocean, for example, is not a single sea but a collection of different seas. The different stations placed in various parts of the ocean revealed that different areas of the same ocean have unique characteristics. They discovered that these salty seas vary in temperature, salinity, density, marine life, and the ability to dissolve oxygen depending on the region. Even though these differences exist, the seas still meet and interact within a single ocean.
This concept was also found to be true for seas like the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, or the Red Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, and even in the Arabian Sea meeting the Gulf of Aden at specific straits. In 1942, scientists finally understood that different seas exist, each with distinct characteristics and qualities, yet they meet and mix at certain points.
Marine scientists describe the most significant characteristic of seas and oceans as being their dynamic nature. Seas are not static; they are always in motion. The tides, currents, waves, and storms are all factors that cause constant mixing and movement between different waters. A natural question arises: If the seas are constantly mixing, why don’t they fully blend or homogenize with one another?
Researchers studied this phenomenon and discovered that there is a water barrier or separator between two seas that meet at a single location, whether in an ocean or a strait. This separator prevents the seas from mixing completely. The barrier was identified not through sight, but through precise measurements of salinity, temperature, and density—factors that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
Also now you can find fresh water Corals and pearls , it is already an a full industry, and before someone will say yes but this is now, we can easily say that this is another miracle of the Quran because it is for every Era
